Not for the Squeemish

Number one most asked question: Isn't it Knit blog suicide to talk about knitting AND politics? Aren't you worried it will make you unpopular especially since you are not the typical KVB knit blogger type?

I never said this was a "knitting blog" first of all, and who says knitting and anti-idiotarianism can't mix? From Day One I have posted about both. Generally when I am knitting it is when I have time to browse news and blogs. Daily (or whenever I have time) reads are the first group of links in the right hand column. I read, knit, ponder, many times fume, in the end it gets posted, again, if I have time. Being popular was never an issue, being informed is.

As for not being typical KVB: those bloggers have their concerns and reasons for feeling the way they do. I enjoy reading well-informed differing opinions, when I can find them but I find my concerns are more than "unravelling our rights". I wonder if I made a Knitters Against Global Jihad button if anyone would use it, or Knitters Against the Global Lack of Womens Rights button if any would use it, or Knitters Against Theocratic Governments That Deny Basic Human Rights button if any would use it. Probably not. That's fine, I still enjoy looking at knitting pics.

AIK

What are you doing in Sicily? Are you in there in the military?

I moved over here in 1997 to live with The Man (he's the local). I don't work for the military though I did teach ESL at the base here for a while. My husband works on the base.

I'm coming to Italy for vacation/work/whatever, can you tell me where the yarn shops are in Rome/Venice/whatever?

Please don't ask. I do not know where all of the LYSs are located here in Italy. Catania has one main LYS called Barone located on Via Etnea. From Piazza Duomo, turn left up Via Etnea you'll find it about 10 blocks up on the left hand side next to the little wine shop/salumeria. Also, check out the market (2 blocks from Barone), there are a couple tables that have yarn year-round and the LOYM has most excellent finds but availability is seasonal.

So what IS Zibibbo?

Zibibbo is a wine made locally from the Malvasiva grapes. Many call it a dessert wine. I call it a sunny afternoon on the terazza with a lunch of pesce spada and a big salad wine, or in a 5 liter jug at the beach with a group of friends sort of wine, or night in with hubby sort of wine.

Be advised that which is exported (this goes for all wines from here)is not of the same quality that we get locally. The Best Wines produced here do NOT leave the island. They are sold in little cantinas from giant vats where you bring your own bottles/jugs to be filled. You may find it outside of Sicilia but it just won't be the same. It is liquid sunshine.

And it is good

who knows
