Yarrrn Weds.
There are a handful of knitblogs I actually read, I admit, I'm all about the pix. I browse for eyecandy. WIPS, FOs are great but my all time favorite is the Yarn Pr0n. Nothing like a high res clear macro of a hot lusterous luscious hank of fiber lovin. Yes April first is slated for the Flash Your Stash, boy talk abot major fiberlusting then! At any rate, no better day than humpday to post a pic or three of your flavor of the moment, or a favorite from your stash. Show and tell at it's finest. Why Knot?
Today's feature - my Happy Wool!! Egads! They were holding it for ransom at the port. The real port, the one with the ferrys and boats and other floating stuff. Monday morning after telling Kiddo I didn't need a hat because I had hair (oh yes I was wrong about that, I mean I have hair, it's the hat I need). I made The Man walk down to the port with me. After making a wrong turn and ending up in a creepy old building with a lady and a super sticky door, we went back to where we started and took another wrong turn taking us to yet another mysterious office, the woman pointed off into the distance and said something about the telephone. We head off in the general telephone direction.
Finally we entered the lair of The Keepers of The Yarn. Two men in a large office lined with floor to ceiling shelves packed with ledger books. I hand the first guy my official notice that I have something being held for ransom and he immediately walks over and pulls out a big white lump with lots of tape and papers taped to it. Then he handed my notice to the other guy who opens one of the ledgers and starts writing and writing and writing. I had time to peer at all the other bags, probably not yarn, full of boxes and packages waiting for their recipients. I imagined it was offices like this that act as the postal black hole. I know for a fact there is a huge one in Amsterdam. Many packages on the way to or from Casa Zib spend many a day there, sometimes they are even returned to sender. It's a mystery, it is.
While the other guy starts filling out a form, that's what other guys do once they are done filling out ledgers I think, I checked out the papers attached to the package. There was a receipt. A break down of the ransom. They charged "dritti" which is rights. My right to order yarn from another country and have it sent to me ovah here (they didn't do this when I ordered from handpaintedyarn.com, don't know what's up with that). So they include the importing rights payment into the total amount they are stickin' the IVA to me. 20%. Flat, if it is a "good" it is a "luxury" and 20% it is.
Not that I can argue that handspun hand colored merino wool from the holy land isn't a luxury I sure as hell can complain about it. After they come up with that total they calculate the IVA and that gets us a subtotal then add the importing rights tax on TOP of that. Greedy bastages! So I happily pay the ransom and hug my squishy tape and paper laden package all the way home.
Once I could move my fingers again (I need mittens too apparently) I opened the package to find my swoony delights. So soft and squishy and squishy and soft! Colors and texture even more fab than I'd imagined. I'd found them after Yaj left their link in the comments a while back. I'd lusted long time, finally giving in. My Katmandu shawl is on it's last legs, it's time for a replacement. A mosaic wrap, I shall give it more ponder time once I finish up the hipknits silk wrap - progress as of this AM - here
Happy Wool close up here and here. Found it made a most delightful turban and a rather warm fab neckwarmer - please don't ask for the pattern, I really don't have time to format it.
Final piece of Knitting related post - Moze did Amir!!, wait, that doesn't sound like it should. Amir Peretz that is for the Bad Juju KAL. Post elections she'll be accessorizing him for an added bang! Very cool. 1440 stitches left on the Hipknits wrap (yes I count) and I'll finish up Mistah Annan.
**end knitting content**
Back with reads dump after the Kiddo's net time allotment is up.
Dear Sol. You are missed. The Aussies have had enough fun, it's our turn now. Thanks.

Oh, Zib, that yarn is SO happy! Have you ever watched "Iron Chef"? There was always some SYT who would say something like "It makes my mouth so happy" when she was tasting the food. Well, that yarn would make my needles so happy!
MUST destashify before the "Flash Your Stash". I certainly couldn't be caught in a public picture with so much meltable yarn in my stash....

Yummy looking yarn. I just wish they'd let me come to their place and feel them (the yarn, not the owners) up. I mean, what's the point of living so close to such happy wool without being able to roll around in it even before I buy?

oh yes I absolutely agree. One of those great joys of knitterhood, being able to cop a feel. Perhaps they don't want the sheep frightened.

Zib - next time tell the guys to label the yarn right, so you don't have to pay no steeekin' customs ransom.
Jeez - considering the hits they'll get from this and previous blog mentions, there oughta be some protekzia in it for you, grrl!

Lable it, good point. I have decided import taxes do not offend me as much as the IVA. IVA is just BAD!
