Yarrrn Weds.

Must make a note to take The Man to the LYS with me more often. We'd gone out for a walk last Saturday, and *gasp* yarn followed me home. While I was pondering the Brilla color combinations he was eying the wall of Filatura di Crosa wools. He points to the 127 Print and asked if I'd ever worked with it. Nope, I tell him, but I'd be more than happy to give it a shot.

First thought was a knit scarf. I asked the Barone guy for three balls of it, then thought perhaps I should get one more just in case when he informed us there were only six balls of that particular colorway left, shall he hold the last two apart for me? We took 'em all. 127 Print 127 Print. I checked the lable, 100% wool, do hand wash, don't wring, do dry flat, don't don't dont.

And you know what so many don't mean, yes? It'll felt! A quick check in my archives I see it was indeed the 127 that Fiberfairy (Deb, what, you don't blog anymore? Sheesh) said felted like a dream. I mentioned the felting thing to The Man.

Really? So you could make me a felt scarf? Now before you start poopooing felt scarves you must know Armani sells 'em by the wagon load round these parts. With really neat fringe, I should have thought to test felt fringe on the swatch come to think of it.

And that is how I came to add another mindless proj to my flick knitting knits. Very easy knit. 8mm circs and 5 balls of Filatura di Crosa 127 Print Color # 18. You need to be able to cast on, cast off, knit and purl. Ready? CO 41 sts. Work in Stk. St. until you have about 2 meters left on the 5th ball of yarn. BO. Weave in ends. Felt. Block. Add fringe (this is where you would need a 6th ball) if desired. 1 ball takes approx 1 hour and 15 minutes to knit up. If you were pressed you could actually make the whole thing in a day. But who on earth wants to knit miles of Stk. St. in one sitting? Weird factoid: if I watch my work when knitting endless Stk st. I get sleepy hence the flicks, does this happen to any of you?

Also following me home that day, 3 balls of Filatura di Crosa's Primo. Tagged as "Antarctic Wool Superwash". I had no idea that there were sheep in Antartica! Damn they grow them superwash there too! I kinda sorta never got around to giving Kiddo's teachers a Christmas knitgift. Not that I have to, mind you but I gave her two teachers multi-directional scarves (here and here) last year and they wore them with great enthusiasm. Speaking of knitting and her teachers, after almost three years I find out that one of them actually knits. She always talks about the knits that Kiddo and I wear/carry but I thought she was just a knitting fan, not a knitter herself (note I usually see her pre-caffine fix).

Last Weds I was wearing my Cozy and she stopped me and asked me to write down the stitch pattern for her. She said it looked easier than "the other one she liked so much". That's when I asked her...you knit?!? I happen to have the Cozy stitch pattern in an Italian stitch book already translated so will type it up for her and dig around the stash for something fiberly to give her along with it. Something you just can't get here, perhaps some of the HipKnits silk I have the solid lilac left still. Will ponder, school doesn't start back up until after the Befana comes to town.

Still, feel compelled to give them something. First of two, the Primo in lace scarf form, took under 4 hours to knit (however long a Lost episode is, took four of those) on 6.5mms. Will post the pattern to the Complimentaries on TGB once I get the second done, both blocked and formatted. Still kicking myself for not getting a couple extra skeins for a coordinating lace hat.

Final bit of Show & Tell for Yarrrrn Weds. Some handpaintedyarn.com wool that I'd swapped for with Amy what must be around two years ago. I'd dehankified it a couple months back and was messing around with it a few nights ago. I thought I'd pawn it off onto The Man as a scarf, he liked the golden color and it would look fab with one of his coats (then he found the 127 Print and that idea was shot).

I don't want to rip it, I wonder if I should make it into a neckwarmer, add a turtleneck of sorts on one end and more ribbing w/ srs to the bottom to slip under a neckline. Or a big pillow for Babs or a basket, because you know, I haven't made one of those in a couple weeks and my shelves are not quite cluttered enough or I can just let it sit there until I need to claim the needles for another project thus propelling it to UFO category before it was even at Identified UFO status.

Kiddo is at her grandparents casa. Very weird having time to actually THINK. Speaking of which, something to make you think, an editorial on KnitNet - It's Not You, It's Them. If you read it, do, share what you think of it.

Now, off to bake something so the kitchen warms up enough so I can stand being in there long enough to do the dishes. But first I have to find out where this weird noise is coming from. At least it sounds too big to be caused by an animal, unless it is a very big one.

P.S. there has not been a sighting in the cucina since we nuked in there, I'm sure you were just waaaaaaiting for an update.

UPDATE: Oh cute! Somebody nominated "Zibi Bois Good" for a best over all blog for the Knit Blog Awards, I am at the very bottom of the page under "other blogs nominated", not in the actual running mind you. Whoever you are thanks but *cough*c'mon, you know I don't dig on that sort of stuff, I know it's the thought that counts etc. but you know my Reads and rants don't get me on the Popular Knit Bloggers lists ;) So, if you think this sort of thing actually means something in the bigger scope of things, go vote.

"Zibi Bois Good"?

I thought it was "Zibibbo Is God".
Huh.

The Man's felted scarf looks pretty cool, but can we have a bigger picture? I wanna see the whole thing!

Zib, perhaps 'tis exactly those reads and rants that GOT you the nomination...um...not all knitter are rampant left-wingers, eh? ;->

BTW, I have a couple of skeins of 127 Print that I got as a gift. I loved working with it. 'Twas great fun to see where the colors would show up.

And I'm soooo glad to hear you've had no more sightings.

Kim, the scarf FO will be posted once it is complete. I work a few inches at a time and hope to have it up for the New Year or at least drying by then.

Monkee...HAR!

Erica, hehe, me too.

And thanks Lucky for calling home after reading the post to ask what the noise was :D

I read the commentary and while I agree that there are some patterns that may be difficult to read and have errors I've never had that problem thankfully. I don't agree that people will just simply give up and stop knitting because of it. If you are advanced enough to make a sweater, then you can figure out if there is a mistake in a pattern. I'm also pretty sure that if an error was brought to the attention of the designer they would immediately fix it and probably offer the person their money back. I know I would if I were selling my patterns.

I think a seal of appoval thing is a stupid idea. That merely keeps the status quo of deisgners who are already out there and discourages new people from designing. Thus having knitters miss out on some killer designs.

My 2 cents.

Oh and 127 sure is yummy!

Sharon, the editor and easily deterred knitter, must have been having a really bad day. And frankly, as I sit here thinking about her editorial, which didn't really elicit much emotion from me, I think she sounds like an ass. Certify patterns? Just what knitters need - regulation.

And she's obviously never purchased a pattern from the Garter Belt team...all very eager to help, and see knitters enjoy their craft and succeed. Which was also my experience with another designer. Too sweeping a generalization for me, I guess...

I did not need to see that yarn - I love it! The Man's gonna look great in that scarf.

Super glad for no more sightings...but it made for HI-larious reading. Not laughing at your expense, Wendy, really. :-)

I taught my best friend to knit last year, and so far she's been extremely adventuresome but hates the thought of using a pattern. She's completely pattern-shy, which is a trip. But what can I say...I'm a slave to patterns -- she'll probably turn out to be a much better knitter than I am because she'll improvise.
