cat scratch fevah

Thank you for your feedback regarding the crook. Many that have lawyers for this sort of thing have been involved. Pitchforks and torches are standing by.

About the hankies - the first batch I got from the Papershed in the UK along with the dyes. The second batch was sent to me from the Yarntree in Brooklyn. I emailed them yesterday to see if they normally ship internationally. Need to stock up on silk to spin and they are having a 20% OFF sale thru June 4th :)

UPDATE: yes they do ship Int'l! Silk silk silk for me and the others here @ Casa Zib to spin!

"He seems to be turning into sort of a right-wing Hunter S. Thompson"

By way of LGF an interview with The Independent.

You wrote a song called 'Dog Eat Dog'. You see the world like that. But we're not dogs - that's the trouble."
"Remember the movie Old Yeller? Everybody loved him. He brought us our slippers. We gave him cookies. But when Old Yeller gets rabies, you shoot him in the fucking head. It's that simple."
"Just like Saddam Hussein used to be our friend, and the Taliban used to be freedom fighters?"
"Politics, man. I don't have to placate some Arab numb-nut because he holds all our fuel."

He makes me cackle, in a good way. It IS all about the oil, it is. What also amuses me are those who abhor W and the war yet justify their (and others when need me) use of petroyarn. Petro, hello? Do they think fun fur comes from free range petroskas?

Besides, the crap is bad for your health. I have seen on a local level (read at the LYS) a small wave of new knitters. Those jumping on the feminist I'm doing girl stuff because I am a woman and it is my right to and it's all W's fault America is eeeeeevilevilevil . War bad, commies good look I'm wearing my "pace" t-shirt and all we need is love. I see them jumping right in with a fist full of petro. Do they not understand that the countries which ultimately benefit from the continued use of petroyarn have NO WOMEN'S RIGHTS to speak of? Perhaps they do see it as a "cultural thing" and it would be "racist" to speak out against another "culture", it is a woman's right to be lynched by friends and family if she does not obey, "culture", right.

I have a box of horror here. It has been under the bed for a really long time. It is the last of the fugyarn. Yarns that have been here at Casa Zib since '98. If I dump them, they'll end up taking up space in a landfill. If I use them I'll end up with freakyass fibers sprouting out of my skin and I might even hurl pea soup. They are set aside to donate to Kiddo's school next year for the arts and crafts stuff. Yep, foisting it off on The Youths. Not the "youths" who who destroy but those who make cheezy yarn encrusted crafts projects.

Speaking of cheezy yarn encrusted projects, that is what the Fuggablog is all about. And here you were probably thinking it was Hokey Pokey related. The fuggablog amuses me. It is not there for some Greater Purpose, there is no designated "statement" nor "deeper meaning". It is simply fug. Fug of the fiber kind. The fact that the final recipient will attempt to get it displayed in an art gallery in So Cal compelled me to participate. That and the box of horrors under the bed. As I cast on the 100% petro then cast it off again to make the tie/top edging, cringing due to the squeek factor, I laughed that Dr. Zibevil laugh imagining the patrons of the arts singing praises of an "international project leading to greater harmony and understanding". I email myself a reminder to plant a couple more trees to keep the cosmic ballast in order. I ponder their "deeper meanings", the representation of the suppression of the whatever the hell is trendy to repress at the moment. Midgets maybe.

It could happen. Other "artists" have used yarn as their medium. They create the fug. They are renouned for their use of petro. They even have deeper meanings. I know this, I've seen the "exhibitions". I have searched in vain for a yarn using artist to feature on Pixartisan. I was hoping for three dimensional art with excellent photoquality (know of any?). At least the felters keep it real. Sure art is subjective, that is a given. It really should not surprise me that many will applaude crap for fear the intellectuals in the room will point and laugh at them if they don't. Those same people applaude "multi-culturalism" whilst deftly avoiding the rabid dog in the middle of that very same room for the same reasons.

I just point and laugh.

Quitting is easier than you think. If you can't go cold turkey - Start with nothing more than 50% for the next three months. Work your way down. Shop around. Read reviews. Check out FOs. Try a random hank of bamboo, silk, linen, hemp, cotton. Cotton is king but hemp has been around for a hell of a long time and is easier on the environment than the other fibers. George Washington grew hemp. More on the hemp later.

Love the crazy man. He is entertaining. And some people support their cause only as long as it doesn't impact on their own personal comfort and lifestyle. Or they wear blinders and just don't see the whole picture. Life is kinda messy and there are usually creepy crawlies and dustbunnies in the dark corners. You just have to look for them. Not that I'm not a stellar housekeeper. Cough. I'm indulging in my reads this a.m. when I should actually be at school...some yahoo slashed all the tires at the bus company...we're on 2hourdelay status. So I figure I'll find some good from the evil. Balance things out. Mmm, coffee, reads, 100% wool sockknitting, and a caramel-oatmeal-chocolate bar. Good times.

Oh, and my scary box of plastique yarns from a previous life went to the local senior center. The Happy Hookers (I kid you not) will use it to spread good throughout the village. Heh. So more good/evil balance. I figure I've done my work for today on that front.

Great post Wendy. Had to laugh at the group of elitists standing in an art gallery somewhere in So. Cal. And just think, this project is nothing more than mindless fun and trying our best to make the others laugh their asses off.

I'm so relieved I'm not a petroyarn addict. I've made a few baby blankets out of Encore because I was told several years ago that Mothers like acrylic. I've since revised that belief, having more friends who are Mothers.

I hope you fins a yarntist for Pixartisan.

Wow Wendy! I am, indeed, more enlightened for having read your comments about acrylics! I didn't even think about that aspect of it. After this year's "Flash Your Stash", I started buying more natural fiber yarn and I've started knitting up my acrylics for gifts and such. I even have a big rubbermaid tub (hangs head in shame) full of fun furs for the big "Flash Your Stash" de-stash at The Studio LYS this month. By the way, did you come up with the "Flash Your Stash" catch phrase, if so, you should get it trademarked.

Wow...on many levels.

Is it too late to join the fug-a-long? I didn't see anything on there about joining, but then, maybe I was too distracted by the morning "Mom", "Mom", "Mom" stuff....

Denise, yes, the balance is important. Absolutely.

Ali, you will have your choice of furry crotchless..oh wait that was supposed to be a surprise.

Shelagh! All the heirloom sort of blankets and sweaters that were passed down from Hubby's family for the Kiddo were cotton or superwash wool. It washes :) Now they make hypo-allergenic germ repelling baby cotton here, neat stuff.

Carmen, your stash *shakes head* gave me the willies. Awesome that you're branching out fiberwise there. PS, send me your shipping addy per favore.

Erica, I think you can, leave a comment on the blog or this thread - http://knittyboard.com/viewtopic.php?t=29838 :)

Great post today.

More and more I want to buy local fibers only and spin my own yarns. no shipping, no distributing, no oil wasted in yarn transport.

You rock.

Hokey Pokey related? But Zib! What if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about? :)

Posted by: stephy at May 31, 2006 07:30 PM

Just asking. Why do you think that this Morgellon's Disease is related to acrylic yarn - or any sort of petroleum based fiber? I'm not arguing the point because I have no idea. Just wondering. I can't imagine that wearing clothes made from crude oil could actually be GOOD for you.... I hear the Marines out here (29 Palms - huge desert warfare training base) have switched from cotton to microfiber summer uniforms. Isn't microfiber just finely spun acrylic? Cr#p. Life isn't hard enough for the military?

Well, you know that I'm with you on the natural fibers. Sometimes I wonder why I feel so alone on the cotton/hemp thing, though.

Posted by: Wendy at June 1, 2006 07:39 AM

i'm with person before... er... morgellon's disease has something to do with petroyarns? and i would be really interested in reading more about how and where petro is produced - are you hiding some links somewhere, ms zib?

i quit the habit, i did. i said goodbye to petro and i am now so much more ALIVE!

thanks for another fantasic, informative post

*raises hands and shakes them around wildly* I am not a doctor nor researcher nor do I play on on TV. The connection between the disease and acrylic is pure speculation. There is no scientific data/facts to back up my wildass theory. But (always a but) still something to ponder.

Wendy Dahlink, you are not alone (: Cotton/hemp is just misunderstood.

Posted by: zib at June 1, 2006 08:49 AM

Is someone kidding me with this post?

Posted by: Nikki at June 3, 2006 01:41 AM

Not that I enjoy using acrylics and avoid it when possible, but I didn't really even think about that. Thanks for the insight.

Who knew that yarn could get all political? Peace through knitting? Hmmm...at least we're all trying it and now we can feel better about using more "expensive" natural fibers.

Now, to find an alternative to carpet that doesn't use petrol AND won't cost me $25 a square foot...hmmm.
