Knittyboard Science
The latest Knittyboard StalkER/EEs assignment involved a bit o science. The ever so talented Penny Karma came up with: Will it Float? Our contribution to the world of science.
The test subjects (clockwise from the top): plastic lemon, hard plastic monkey, lava rock, snail shell (yes Kiddo kept all shells from the snail cena), pumice rock from the beach, a pistachio.

And the testing facilities. A glass bowl filled with water.

I thought all would float but the lava rock. The man said all but the lava rock and the monkey. So our subjects were introduced to the water. First in, the monkey. Monkey see, monkey do and monkey float.

Pumic stone, it's a floater. Wouldn't an outdoor shower with these mosaiced into the floor be cool? Rinse off the seawater and soften up the feet at the same time!

The snail shell, not only floats but heads right over to the edge of the bowl.

Plastic lemon. But of course.

Lava rock. Sunk like a rock.

Bubbles!

Then The Man asked, so? What about a real lemon. Float or no? No I said. Sicilian lemons float he said. Nuh uh I said. Just a sec I'll go get on he said.

Whaddyknow.

Thus concludes our Will if Float contribution to science.
UPDATE: The Case of the Missing Pistachio. Yes, yes, there was a pistachio in the bowl. It was just sitting there, a lovely toasted salt encrusted pistachio. It shed the shells of confinement and was consumed by yours truely. Whoops. After the fact (actually after Bezzie and Karen's comments) I tosses one into the bowl and I am happy to report there was floatage. I believe there is a mixed bag of nuts in the shells in the cupboard. Do all nuts float? Kiddo and I will further investigate.
