Are they for me? Mommy?

Uhm, no. I'll make the Fuzzy Feet for you and hats, scarves, mittens. These are for me.
But they are very cute!

Look, my dragonfly likes it there so very much.

I should have known I would come back from the kitchen and find this.

Suffice to say, a Cascade 220 version in orange, lime and red are now blocking. So Kiddo will have colorful baskets for her Very Special Things too.
Not as special as those Very Special Things but a Very Helpful Thing was made this weekend.

Kiddo and The Man's kite production were in full swing and a trip to the hardware store for dowels and duct tape was called for. Needed those odds and ends. While there we spied big cork coasters. Approx 2 cm thick and 12cm across, dense cork. A grooved dowel and a pack of hooks and I was set.

I tried to convince The Man to take the cork to the base and have the guys in the officina drill a hole in the center for me but that didn't work. Poking and prodding the cork with a series of knitting needles and some other mysterious pokey tool from The Closet did.

The hole was slightly smaller than the dowel. Twisted the dowel into the hole then get the screw to screw in by brute force. Hard wood makes for hard screwing. (: The grooves + cork combo make for a stable spindle. I'll add some superglue once I can find where it is hidden. I did a quick prova with some commercial yarn to see it was balanced enough to use (we had gotten extra corks just in case). Works well, an added bonus, the grooves on the dowel stop the yarn from sliding around.
Only thing missing was actual handspun to ply so I started in on 3 oz of merino. Randomly floofing colors together for a fine single with a 2 or 3 ply in mind. Will be interesting to see how this barbers out.

Buona Domenica a tutti!
