2 Needle Kid's Socks

Pattern is attributed to "A bunch of crazy Kiwis"
Materials - chunky weight yarn - I use just over a 50 g ball per pair of socks. Better idea would be to use a different colour for heels and toes / or stripe them and use up leftover scraps.
Needles - 5.5 mm
Gauge - 5 rows = 1 inch
Lets do it -
Make 2 - one for each foot folks :0)
Cast on 25 stitches.
Knit 20 rows of K1,P1 rib
( now that wasn't hard was it?)
Using the first 8 stitches only - knit 6 rows stst (K1 row, P the next)
Big breath and we'll turn the heel...
K1 st, k2 tog., K1, turn and go back across purling.
K2 sts, k2tog., K1, turn and go back across purling.
K3 sts, K2tog., K1, turn and go back across purling.
K3 sts, K2tog. and we have 4 stitches .
Pick up 4 stitches on the inside edge of the heel, carry on and knit across ALL of the stitches.Everything is on 1 needle again.
Now for the other side of the heel turning...
Purl across 8 sts and turn
Work 3 rows stst on these 8 sts.
P1, p2tog., p1, turn and knit back across
P2, p2tog., p1, turn and knit back across
P3, p2tog., p1, turn and knit back acrossP3,
p2tog - we have 4 stitches left.
Pick up 4 stitches down the inside of the heel and carry on purling across the rest of the stitches.
(That wasn't too bad was it?)

K 7 sts, k2 tog, K7 sts, k2tog and K7 sts ( 23 stitches)
Purl 1 row K6 sts, k2tog,K7 sts, k2tog and K6 sts ( 21 stitches)
Purl 1 row.
Knit in Stk St for 2 inches ( 10 rows) for a 2 year old or 3 inches ( 16 rows) for a 3 year old .
Toe shaping .... Knit 2 rows stst.K1 st , k2tog, k7 sts, k2 tog., k6 sts,k2tog.,k1 st ( 18sts)
Purl 1 row
K1 st, k2tog., K5 sts, k2tog., k5 sts, k2 tog., k1 st ( 15 sts)
Purl 1 row
K1, k2tog., k2 sts, k2tog., k1 st, k2tog.,k2 sts, k2tog., k1 sts - 11 stitches left.
Pull wool through remaining 11 sts and pull up TIGHT.Sew up the seam and you're finished!
